Aux TV - Cypher Interview

Interview with Duxx of Concrete Guerilla on Aux TV’s original program “Cypher”

The Akon Story…

Posted by concreteguerilla On August - 4 - 2009

Some things were just meant to be…

So Peter Jackson is opening up for Akon, and I have to buy tickets?? See most times I just ask and receive, this time was going to be a little different due to the size of this concert and the promoters who were throwing the party, I was not able to get free tickets or a backstage pass at that, none the less I was going to go to the show and find my way backstage, if I had to kidnap a security guard… it was going to happen.

After waiting in line for the tickets, we headed inside to meet PJ who came out front to get the clothing for the show, after a quick discussion we decided that we were going to just walk in the back, no questions, no clearance like we belonged there, so here we went… pass the security, down the side of the stage, into the dressing room with 5mins to spare…mission accomplished.

Peter Jackson hit the stage, I drank his alcohol…vodka I think, then I hit the side of the stage to film some footage for CG TV, PJ put on a awesome show, I was quite proud of my dude, next artist was Karl Wolf, who wowed the crowd with his single “Africa” …once his set was done, he invited us to his dressing room where he was kind enough to film a video drop for CG TV and snap some pics.

2 down, 1 to go….now im not the biggest Akon fan but my business assistant is, so after all the crazy hip-hop and skateboarding events that she has to sit through, it was cool to be at a party that she was enjoying and I cant lie, I enjoyed his set also, even though he was just singing over the full tracks, regardless that it was all Lip-synch, (we argued, she said he wasn’t, I say he was…watch the footage) the show was good, and what was even better was the chance to talk and snap a couple pics with him, even though his security were acting like dicks (no video allowed) the night was a success.

Look at these awsome pictures stolen from Dan Garrity Photography….naw just playing I asked for permission. Also my picture with the man himself.

Me, My nose and The Clipse

Exclusive from Toronto’s Most Talked About Clothing Line -Concretre Guerilla- Clothing, Lifestyle, Music

Every event is different every party has its highlights, some nights are good, some are not, a lot of time I kind of just stand around and wait for it to happen, this night was to be a night I will take with me forever …no pun intended.

So we’re backstage waiting for The Clipse to come out and do their thing, putting back a few beers, and networking with the people, this is when boredom sets in, most times I kind of just walk around the club, give pounds, take pics, not this night….

Some of you may not know but I’m a big lover of fighting and fighting theory, so to pass time me and my homies like to play spar, and let me tell you, sparring when your backstage drinking and smoking cigs is a big no-no and sparing your half sober boys who like to play ruff is a HUGE NO NO, sometimes it can lead to a bruised rib, or a black eye, tonight it was a cig being impaled into my nose by the palm of my friends hand…now I admit I was a little “in the bag” and should have took the smoke outta my mouth… but I didn’t and when the heater was stuck to my nose burning the skin I really didn’t feel it, until my homie pointed it out. ” Duxx… your nose dude!! ”

I went to the bathroom to clean the black ash that was burnt into my nose, while doing that I scrubbed the first 2 layers of skin off, leaving a disfigured circle that had the “3rd degree burn” look, it has taken months to heal, with the help of 2 bottles of Bio-Oil and countless nights of contemplating a skin graff, I’m happy to say its now fully healed, but if you look close there is a small scar ….anyways much respect to my man “Star” for burning my dam nose, and to my boy “Jerky” for telling me how bad it looked at the Chinese restaurant while the Asians looked at me in disgust…good times!

Meet Duxx

Posted by concreteguerilla On April - 28 - 2009

duxx
Concrete Guerilla’s man behind the magic…meet Duxx.

So I was informed I should have some info on myself on the new site, well…being a private guy I wasnt too sure if I was feeling that idea, like really…who writes their own Bio?

So here is a Q&A I did to give you some info on myself, Duxx, the man behind the magic.

How did you get the name Duxx?

It started in Jr High School, I used to talk a lot in class, and one of my classmates started calling me ducky, as in “shut up that dam duck” from there it just spread around the school till everyone called me ducky or ducks, over the years it’s just evolved to Duxx, and that’s just the spelling, its still pronounced ducks, so get it right people.

What does Concrete Guerilla mean?

Oh man that’s a hard question to answer, what does it mean to you?

How was Concrete Guerilla started?

I was working on another clothing line previous to Concrere Guerilla, that project was short lived due to difference of opinions with my partner at that time, having been the creative force behind the line I decided I was going to do the line solo. After a quick name change and a re-structure of the company Concrete Guerilla was formed in May of 2008.

Were you always into clothing?

Previous I was into music, I spent a good 10yrs producing and recording, I owned a studio and everything, but as time passed I really wanted to get into clothing, after closing the studio I changed my path, it was a very hard choice to make, but I’m happy I made it.

How did you first get into designing?

I first started drawing at a young age, progressing I moved through different mediums, watercolors, conte crayons, stencils, and finally digital art, using the computer to create images was something I fell in love with, programs like Photoshop, and Illustrator became the method I used to create my art and it just went from there. I’m self taught, never spent a day in class, I create all of the designs, websites, advertising and media.

What elements make up Concrete Guerilla?

Well you know the gorillas are my main inspiration for most of the line, the different ways I can present
the gorilla imagery, also a lot of people may not know CG was created out of my love for Urban culture and Skateboarding culture, 2 big parts of my life, combing them we get CG, skate wear, street wear, with a gorilla inspired twist.

Walk us through the creation process, when coming up with new designs?

It kinda just happens. I get an Idea, fire up Photoshop or illustrator, play around with the idea, smoke one…play with it some more, smoke another…design starts coming together, test cut it, make a sample garment, show it to my close friends, something like that.

Why did you choose to do a mens line?

Funny thing is alot of ladies ask me that, “why dont I do girls clothing”, this is something I hear everyday,a nd the answer to that is simple …one step at a time, focusing on a mens line allows me to build exposure for the brand among my core audience, and lets be honest I really know nothing about girl clothing. hahahahah (starts laughing)

What can we expect in the “Duxx” blog section of the site?

Its going to be fun, straight up uncensored Duxx at its finest, my personal adventures, and stories also pictures and videos, all the crazy things I do for Concrete Guerilla.

What does Duxx do when he’s not doing Concrete Guerilla?

Dude I live, eat, sleep, breathe my company, I’ve been told I’m in a bubble, I have drive, motivation
and work ethics like no one else, so when I’m not doing CG …I’m probably having sex.

Where do you see you’re self in 5 years?

Still in the bubble.

Anything else?

Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me, it means a lot and you know who you are, also Its Duxx, pronounced “ducks”… get it right people. Now go buy a shirt!!
