Concrete Guerilla’s man behind the magic…meet Duxx.
So I was informed I should have some info on myself on the new site, well…being a private guy I wasnt too sure if I was feeling that idea, like really…who writes their own Bio?
So here is a Q&A I did to give you some info on myself, Duxx, the man behind the magic.
How did you get the name Duxx?
It started in Jr High School, I used to talk a lot in class, and one of my classmates started calling me ducky, as in “shut up that dam duck” from there it just spread around the school till everyone called me ducky or ducks, over the years it’s just evolved to Duxx, and that’s just the spelling, its still pronounced ducks, so get it right people.
What does Concrete Guerilla mean?
Oh man that’s a hard question to answer, what does it mean to you?
How was Concrete Guerilla started?
I was working on another clothing line previous to Concrere Guerilla, that project was short lived due to difference of opinions with my partner at that time, having been the creative force behind the line I decided I was going to do the line solo. After a quick name change and a re-structure of the company Concrete Guerilla was formed in May of 2008.
Were you always into clothing?
Previous I was into music, I spent a good 10yrs producing and recording, I owned a studio and everything, but as time passed I really wanted to get into clothing, after closing the studio I changed my path, it was a very hard choice to make, but I’m happy I made it.
How did you first get into designing?
I first started drawing at a young age, progressing I moved through different mediums, watercolors, conte crayons, stencils, and finally digital art, using the computer to create images was something I fell in love with, programs like Photoshop, and Illustrator became the method I used to create my art and it just went from there. I’m self taught, never spent a day in class, I create all of the designs, websites, advertising and media.
What elements make up Concrete Guerilla?
Well you know the gorillas are my main inspiration for most of the line, the different ways I can present
the gorilla imagery, also a lot of people may not know CG was created out of my love for Urban culture and Skateboarding culture, 2 big parts of my life, combing them we get CG, skate wear, street wear, with a gorilla inspired twist.
Walk us through the creation process, when coming up with new designs?
It kinda just happens. I get an Idea, fire up Photoshop or illustrator, play around with the idea, smoke one…play with it some more, smoke another…design starts coming together, test cut it, make a sample garment, show it to my close friends, something like that.
Why did you choose to do a mens line?
Funny thing is alot of ladies ask me that, “why dont I do girls clothing”, this is something I hear everyday,a nd the answer to that is simple …one step at a time, focusing on a mens line allows me to build exposure for the brand among my core audience, and lets be honest I really know nothing about girl clothing. hahahahah (starts laughing)
What can we expect in the “Duxx” blog section of the site?
Its going to be fun, straight up uncensored Duxx at its finest, my personal adventures, and stories also pictures and videos, all the crazy things I do for Concrete Guerilla.
What does Duxx do when he’s not doing Concrete Guerilla?
Dude I live, eat, sleep, breathe my company, I’ve been told I’m in a bubble, I have drive, motivation
and work ethics like no one else, so when I’m not doing CG …I’m probably having sex.
Where do you see you’re self in 5 years?
Still in the bubble.
Anything else?
Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me, it means a lot and you know who you are, also Its Duxx, pronounced “ducks”… get it right people. Now go buy a shirt!!
